FAQs

How long does a typical paver installation take?

Project timelines vary based on size and complexity. A standard residential patio (200-400 sq ft) typically takes 3-5 days, while a driveway may take 5-7 days. Larger commercial projects are quoted individually. Weather conditions can affect scheduling, but we'll provide a detailed timeline during your consultation.

Do I need permits for paver installation?

Permit requirements vary by municipality. In most cases, patios and walkways don't require permits, but driveways and structures near property lines often do. We handle all permit applications and ensure your project meets local codes. During your consultation, we'll advise on specific requirements for your location.

What factors affect the cost of a paver project?

Several factors influence pricing: project size (square footage), material selection (concrete pavers vs. natural stone), site preparation needs (excavation, grading, drainage), pattern complexity, and accessibility. We provide detailed, itemized quotes after your free consultation so there are no surprises.

Will pavers crack in Illinois freeze-thaw cycles?

Quality pavers are engineered to withstand freeze-thaw cycles common in Illinois. Proper installation with adequate base preparation and drainage is key to preventing shifting and cracking. Our installation methods exceed industry standards for our climate, and we back our work with a workmanship warranty.

How far in advance should I book my project?

During peak season (spring and summer), we recommend booking 4-6 weeks in advance. Fall projects should be scheduled by late summer. For best availability and to complete work before winter, we suggest starting the consultation process early. Contact us anytime to get on our schedule.

Do you work with commercial properties?

Absolutely. We serve businesses throughout the region with walkways, patios, parking areas, and comprehensive landscape services. Commercial projects are scheduled to minimize business disruption—often nights or weekends. Contact us to discuss your commercial project requirements and timeline.

What kind of materials do you use?

We use premium pavers and natural stone selected for durability in Chicagoland weather. Depending on the project, that includes concrete pavers, brick pavers, bluestone, and other high-quality stone, along with proper base materials, edging, and polymeric sand for long-lasting results.

What is the difference between concrete pavers and natural stone?

Concrete pavers are engineered for uniform strength and interlocking precision, making them ideal for driveways. Natural stone (like Bluestone or Travertine) offers a unique, high-end aesthetic but requires expert selection to ensure it can withstand Illinois winters.

Can you install pavers over an existing concrete patio?

While possible, we generally recommend a full excavation. Installing over old concrete can lead to drainage issues and height mismatches. Our 7-layer base preparation ensures a foundation that won't shift over time.

Do pavers require a lot of maintenance?

Pavers are remarkably low-maintenance. Beyond occasional sweeping and rinsing, we recommend professional cleaning and re-sanding every 3–5 years to keep the joints stable and the colors vibrant.

How do you prevent weeds from growing between the pavers?

We use high-performance polymeric sand in every installation. Once activated with water, this sand hardens to create a powerful barrier that resists weed growth and ant hills.

Are paver patios better than stamped concrete?

Yes. Unlike stamped concrete, which is prone to cracking in our "freeze-thaw" climate, paver systems are flexible. If a single paver is damaged, it can be replaced individually without tearing up the whole patio.

Can I use salt on my pavers in the winter?

Most high-quality pavers, especially Unilock products, are salt-resistant. However, we recommend using calcium chloride or sand when possible to protect the finish and the environment.

How do you handle drainage on a new patio?

Every project includes a "pitch" or slope (usually 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot) to guide water away from your home’s foundation. For heavy-drainage areas, we can install permeable paving systems.

Can I add a fire pit or outdoor kitchen later?

It is much easier and more cost-effective to plan for these during the initial build. However, we can design your patio "base-ready" for future additions if you aren't ready to build the full kitchen today.

How do I choose the right paver color for my home?

We recommend choosing a color that complements your roof or siding. During your 3D design consultation, we’ll show you different textures and patterns—like Unilock Umbriano or Holland Stone—to see what looks best against your actual house.
